The number of people testing positive for COVID-19 has increased from 4,485 to 5,741 cases (+28%) for the week of 27 June to 3 July.
The number of PCR tests performed during the week of 27 June to 3 July has increased from 11,131 to 14,201.
53 people reported a positive rapid antigen test (RAT) for the reporting week, compared to 44 the previous week, bringing the number of positive results performed by a health-care worker to a total of 3,208. It should be noted that positive RATs are not included in the calculation of the positivity rate.
As of 3 July, the number of active infections has increased to 10,488 compared to 8,834 on 26 June, while the number of people healed increased from 251,237 to 255,322. The average age of those diagnosed as positive for COVID-19 is 39.9 years.
For the week of 27 June to 3 July, 2 new deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported. The average age of the deceased is 69 years.
In the hospitals, there were 19 new admissions of confirmed COVID-19 patients in normal care, compared to 13 the previous week. The number of occupied beds in the intensive care unit decreased from 2 to 1. The average age of hospitalised patients is 53 years.
Positivity rate and incidence rate
For the reference period, the effective reproduction rate (R) decreased, with 1.02% compared to 1.11% the previous week, while the positivity rate on all tests performed (prescriptions, contact tracing) increased from 40.29% to 40.43%.
The 7-day incidence rate increased to 890 per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 695 per 100,000 inhabitants the previous week.
Re-infections as well as certified self-tests were included in the calculation of incidence rates. The incidence rate has increased in all age groups, except in the 0-14 and the 85+ age groups.
The largest increase was recorded in the 70-74 age group (+70%) and the 20-29 age group (+61%) The lowest incidence rate is recorded in the 75+ age group (515 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), while the highest incidence rate is recorded in the 30-44 age group with 1,509 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Contaminations
With the number of cases increasing, it is difficult to call, review and determine the likely source of infection for all cases over the past week at the time of writing this report. Priority for calls is given to cases over 60 years of age and to residents of care homes. Among the 7,766 cases registered with residents of care homes in the week of 27 June to 3 July, 3,455 cases were called before 4 July 2022.
After random selection of the cases called, 300 cases (8.7%) were reviewed and the source was determined. The family circle remains the most frequent source of transmission of COVID-19 infections (24%), followed by travel abroad (19%) and leisure activities (14%). The percentage of undetermined sources is 26%.
Vaccinations: update on the situation
For the week of 27 June to 3 July, a total of 1,676 doses were administered. 76 people received a 1st dose, 140 a 2nd dose, 866 people received one complementary dose to a full vaccination, 592 received a second complementary dose to a full vaccination and 2 received a third complementary dose to a full vaccination, bringing the total number of vaccines administered as of 4 July to 1,286,324.
474,011 people have a complete vaccination pattern, which corresponds to a vaccination rate of 78.8% of the eligible population (i.e. the 5+ population).

Vaccination centre Hall Victor Hugo
A 4th dose of COVID-19 vaccine can now be given to people aged 70 years and over, as well as to people with a written recommendation from their doctor and a risk factor for severe COVID-19.
On this occasion, the Victor Hugo vaccination centre will exceptionally reopen between 12 and 30 July. People wishing to be vaccinated are also called upon to take advantage of the vaccination facilities offered by town practices, pharmacies and the vaccination bus.

Wastewater monitoring in Luxembourg as part of SARS-CoV-2
According to the latest CORONASTEP report drawn up by the LIST (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology), the contamination level of the 13 wastewater treatment plants analysed during the 26th week of 2022 still shows a high prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater at national level. Both nationally and regionally, the trend is similar to that of the previous week, but with a slight increase in the observed SARS-CoV-2 flows.
