The first day began with an opening plenary session bringing together the EPC members present in Granada. Speakers included Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine.

Xavier Bettel then took part in a round table on "Multilateralism, including security and geostrategic concerns". During this exchange, the Prime Minister stressed the need to maintain an open and constructive dialogue, which was the ultimate aim of the creation of this Forum. He went on to say that leaders need to talk directly to each other, rather than talking about each other.

The day ended with an official dinner at the Alhambra, the medieval acropolis of Granada, in the presence of LL.AA.RR. the King and Queen of Spain.

At the informal meeting of EU Heads of State or Government on 6 October, the twenty-seven Member States discussed the European Union's future strategic agenda, the enlargement and absorption capacity of the EU, as well as migration and crises in the neighbourhood.
